Former General Counsel for Fusion5, Joe brings over 25 years’ experience as general counsel and senior managing attorney for large and small healthcare organizations. In those roles he has developed and managed teams and processes in regulatory compliance, contract and vendor management as well as human resources and facilities management.
Prior to Fusion5, Joe was a Consultant Counsel – Ethics and Compliance for Peabody Energy in St. Louis where he advised their general counsel on day-to-day compliance matters. While at Peabody, Joe also led the evaluation and proposed redesign of their ethics and compliance program, including the review and assessment of a new compliance management system in conjunction with all policies, training, procedures and Board reporting with an emphasis on the international Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and antitrust compliance. Joe also spent a couple of years as General Counsel for GEHA Health, one of the largest benefits providers offering medical and dental plans for federal employees, retirees, and their dependents.
Additionally, as Managing Associate General Counsel for Anthem, Joe led Anthem’s regulatory affairs team, which is responsible for monitoring, identifying, and analyzing all new laws and regulations in all jurisdictions impacting the company’s core commercial business. He was also the lead attorney for their Missouri plan, advising and advocating for that plan in all aspects of its business and operations. Other positions Joe held were: Senior Counsel for WellPoint, Inc., /Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, and Associate Attorney for Sandberg Phoenix and von Gontard P.C. Joe also served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Missouri Attorney General’s Office out of Jefferson City, Missouri.
Joe has experience with highly complex regulatory and business environments and is known as a positive, proactive, and adaptable leader and partner to the business.
Joe currently resides in St. Charles, Missouri with his wife Paige.
